A few days ago, the Congress general secretary appealed for more women in politics and said, “There is no one to protect you here. Only those who talk about protecting you are safe, but you are not.
“I urge women to come into politics and stand shoulder to shoulder with me. Together we will change the politics of this country and this state. The government thinks that Rs 2,000 and a gas cylinder will fix everything… We will get strong women candidates and we will support them. If not now, they will be stronger by the next election.”
Priyanka had also announced that if Congress comes to power in the state, the party will ensure an honorarium of Rs 10,000 for ASHA and Anganwadi workers. Congress leaders have been quite aggressive in Uttar Pradesh for some time now in trying to revive the oldest party in the state once again.
Meanwhile, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday launched a registration drive in Punjab following his promise that women would be given Rs 1,000 if his party comes to power in Punjab after the 2022 assembly elections.
Kejriwal, who is on a one-day visit to Punjab, started the campaign from Sarai Khas village in Kartarpur here. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has released a mobile phone number on which women will have to give a missed call for registration. Kejriwal said that women will only have to give a missed call on this number and they will get Rs 1,000 every month after the formation of the AAP government in the state.
The Delhi Chief Minister had earlier promised that he would be given Rs 1,000 every month if his party forms the government in Punjab. Seeking an answer to his political opponents, who questioned the money needed to fulfill the promise, the AAP leader said that once his party comes to power, he will stop illegal sand mining activity worth Rs 20,000 crore and Will fund the scheme with that money.
He said, ‘We will stop the theft of 20 thousand crore rupees through illegal sand mining and will make arrangements to give one thousand rupees to the women from that money.’ Kejriwal said that the women of Punjab are very hardworking and for their empowerment and making them financially strong, an amount of Rs 1,000 per month.
