Assembly Election 2022 Live Updates: BJP to release election manifesto in Uttarakhand on February 2; Congress releases second list of 23 candidates for Punjab

Vikram Bajwa, son-in-law of former Punjab Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhathal, has got ticket from Sahnewal assembly seat from Amargarh assembly seat. Former Punjab minister Ashwini Sekhri has been fielded again from her Batala assembly seat, where she lost last time. Former MLA Harchand Kaur has been fielded from Mahal Kalan (SC) constituency.

The opposition BJP on Tuesday criticized the West Bengal government’s decision to launch the neighborhood learning center project, claiming it would compromise the safety of students and teachers alike. The party’s state spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya told the media that the state government, instead of ensuring that classes resume immediately in educational institutions, was adopting tactics such as launching a neighborhood learning project, which would lead to a huge influx of primary and pre-primary students. The majority will not benefit.

The Congress on Tuesday hit out at the BJP over a purported video clip of Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan making derogatory remarks against Brahmins. Congress spokesperson Supriya Srinet alleged that the remarks made in the clip, which has gone viral, reflect the anti-Brahmin, anti-Dalit mentality of the BJP. He also alleged that BJP leaders have made such casteist remarks against Dalits and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the past. “The Uttar Pradesh government, the central government and the BJP leadership should apologize for the shameful remarks made by the Union minister,” he said.

The BJP on Tuesday announced the names of eight more candidates, including Gudiya Katheria from Auraiya and Poonam Sankhwar from Rasulabad in Kanpur Dehat. The party declared Sanjeev Kumar Diwakar from Jalesar constituency and Virendra Verma from Marhara seat in Etah district. It has taken the name of Mamtash Shakya from Patiali and Hari Om Verma from Amanpur (both in Kasganj district). The party has decided to field Priyaranjan Ashu Diwakar from Kishni seat in Mainpuri district.
