Assam’s madrassa row: Prohibitory order clamped in Bongaigaon district | Guwahati News – Times of India

GUWAHATI: A day after a madrassa was demolished in Assam’s Bongaigaon district following the arrest of one of its teachers for his alleged links with al-Qaida, the district authorities have clamped has clamped prohibitory orders with immediate effect in the entire district following intelligence inputs that “due to activities of fundamentalist organizations, altercation may occur, and this may lead to breach of peace.”
The order issued by the district magistrate states that based on police information, “due to prevailing situation in some parts of the district, after apprehending of anti-national activists, there is every likelihood of public peace and tranquility in Bongaigaon district.”
The orders has banned gathering of more than five persons, organizing meetings, rallies, carrying of firearms, lathis, daos, liquid acids, wearing of combat uniforms resembling that worn by police, security forces and army and indiscriminate use of loudspeakers.
