Angkita Dutta had accused Indian Youth Congress chief Srinivas Beevi of causing her mental agony after she leveled sexual harassment allegations against former IYC president Keshav Kumar.

Assam Youth Congress president Angkita Dutta was on Saturday expelled from the primary membership of the Congress for six years for anti-party activities.

Dutta had accused Indian Youth Congress chief Srinivas BV of causing her mental agony after she leveled sexual harassment allegations against former IYC president Keshav Kumar.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized the Congress over the move, saying it was its model of women empowerment and that its slogan “ladki hoon, ladki sakti hoon” was hollow.

“The Congress President has expelled Assam Pradesh Youth Congress President Dr Angkita Dutta from the primary membership of the party for six years with immediate effect for her anti-party activities,” said Tariq Anwar, member-secretary of the Disciplinary Action Committee. Congress said in an order.

Hitting out at the Congress, BJP’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya tweeted: “This is the Congress model of women empowerment!” Congress is demotivating for women,” she said.

Malviya also said, “Ladki hoon, ladki shakti hoon is an empty slogan.” The Congress had given the slogan during the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections last year.

Dutta had tweeted: “When the previous IYC president Keshav Kumar was sexually harassed and came out because of #MeToo. He was forced to remove it. Now despite being mentally harassed and discriminated against for 6 months by BV Srinivas. I have been asked to keep quiet and no inquiry has been initiated. , you are welcome to check the CCTV footage of home and office where you will probably see me reading the trolls being spread by my colleagues,” he tweeted on Friday.

Dutta was issued a show cause notice by the Assam Congress, asking him to explain why action should not be taken against him for his alleged anti-party activities.
