Assam floods: Vehicle crashes in relief camp; 1 killed, 6 injured

MorigaonOne person was killed and six others were injured when a vehicle rammed into a flood relief camp in Morigaon district. An official gave this information on Saturday. The accident happened near Dharmatul Vishnu temple on National Highway 37.

“Our preliminary investigation reveals that the driver of the vehicle was in an inebriated condition during the accident on Friday. He has already been arrested. We had made arrangements to send the injured to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital last night only. Govt. Will bear their medical expenses,” Morigaon deputy commissioner PR Gharfalia said after visiting the accident site.

Gharphalia said there is a standing order to seal the roads used for the camps of the affected people.

“This particular section may have been left open for some reason. I have now ordered to seal it. The traffic will move only through a section of the highway,” the official said.

Morigaon is one of the worst flood-affected districts, with one person killed and over 94,000 dead in four revenue divisions, and 282 villages still submerged under water.
