Assam Film And Music Industry Recalls Singer’s Contribution | Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati: Tributes pour in from the film and music industry of Assam for legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar on Sunday as the fraternity recalled her immense contribution to Assamese music.
Well-known singer from Assam Tarali Sarma said, “I think there is not a single singer who is not inspired by her. Many, like me, have fallen in love with her music since childhood. Common people loved her for her music and she drew attraction of those who are associated with music.”
Sarma, who had got an opportunity to meet the singer in 2012 at her Mumbai residence, said: “It would be unfair to call her a legendary singer or an institution. She is beyond everything. We cannot limit her by giving tags. I think that is why people place her and god on the same pedastal and call her ‘Goddess Saraswati’.”
Meanwhile, composer Bhupen Uzir said Mangeshkar had taken Assamese music to the next level by lending her voice in a few numbers. “Jonakore Rati is an example of such an evergreen song sung by Lataji,” he added. Uzir got an opportunity of a live recording of a musical programme, Lataji Nights, held in Guwahati in 1995.
popular actor Jatin Bora said, “Her contributions have made the industry rich. I pay my tribute to this legend.”
Popular singer Zubeen Garg said, “Her demise is a big loss to the country. It is an irreparable loss to the film and music industry. People of the state will remember her forever.”
