Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma booked by Hyderabad cops for Rahul Gandhi jibe | Hyderabad News – Times of India

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad police have registered a case against Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his offensive remarks against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi,
Sarma had made the remarks against Rahul Gandhi during a poll rally in Uttarakhand last week for allegedly questioning the 2016 surgical strike across the Line of Control (LoC).
An FIR was registered in Jubilee Hills police station following a complaint by Telangana Congress president A Revanth Reddy. Cases were booked under IPC sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 505 (2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes).
But Revanth expressed his dissatisfaction over the sections invoked in the FIR and lodged another complaint with the police.
“The IPC section applied in the FIR against the Assam CM has lessened the gravity of the crime committed. The police should book a case against Sarma under IPC sections 153 (A), 294 and 509 as well,” Revanth demanded in his second complaint on Wednesday while referring to earlier court cases with similar of crime.
IPC section 153 (A) relates to promoting enmity between different groups of people on grounds of religion, race or birth etc; section 294 relates to obscene acts or utterance to annoyance of others; and section 509 IPC applies for use of words or acts intended to insult modesty of any woman.
Banjara Hills ACP M Sudarshan said that the investigation was still on. Revanth, who is also the MP from Malkajgiri, demanded that Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao consult legal experts and ensure stern action was taken against the Assam CM.
The TPCC president reiterated that they would not keep quiet till action is taken.
“We will go to court if no action is taken,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Revanth and other top Congress leaders were placed under house arrest ahead of their planned protests in front of police commissionerates and police stations demanding the arrest of Sarma.
A police team later went to the residence of Revanth in Jubilee Hills and informed him about the FIR against Sarma.
CM KCR had slammed his counterpart from Assam for the comments and demanded that BJP central leadership remove him from CM’s post. KCR also demanded proof of surgical strikes.
