Assam: Booster dose in phases for all government employees: Assam Health Minister | Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati: Assam From Monday, booster doses began to be given to all health care workers (HCWs), frontline workers (FLWs) and citizens over 60 with comorbidities.
state health minister Keshab Mahanta launched a statewide campaign from Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) in Upper Assam. Mahanta said that all government employees would get a phase-wise booster dose, as they would be treated as frontline workers in Assam.
“Those selected categories of beneficiaries who have completed nine months from taking the second dose are now eligible for a booster dose. In Assam, we have to include various sections of employees in the frontline workers category. Staff of district administration in election duty The officers who are engaged and those who play an active role in the offices will also get priority as frontline workers,” Mahant said. He said that eventually all government officials will get a booster dose in the form of frontline workers.
Many eminent doctors and senior citizens were jailed Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) here on the first day of the drive. Padma Shri Surgeon Dr. Ilyas Ali, Internationally acclaimed surgeon Dr. Subhash Khanna and Director of Health Services, Assam, Dr. Rathindra Bhuyan, were among the celebrities who got vaccinated with a booster dose in Guwahati on the first day.
A total of 268 people were given booster dose at GMCH. Dr Abhijit Sarma, superintendent of GMCH said, “The booster dose is being administered in a hassle-free manner at GMCH. Eligible beneficiaries just need to walk.”
Dr. Ilyas Ali was sure that the antibodies against the virus would definitely increase with the booster dose and thus, immunity of the individuals. “We were eagerly waiting for the booster dose as the third wave of the pandemic was imminent,” Ali told TOI.
As of Monday, 2.6 lakh people in Assam have become eligible to receive the booster dose, the State Immunization Office said. Also known as the precautionary dose, a total of 7,921 beneficiaries, including 4,577 HCWs, 1,439 FLWs and 1,905 citizens above 60, were vaccinated for the third dose on Monday.
The state nodal officer for COVID-19 vaccination said, “Today has started and on the first day, booster doses were given mainly in medical college hospitals and select government hospitals in the districts. The campaign will be expanded from tomorrow.” Munindra Nath Ngatey,
