Assam BJP launches its first ‘Atmanirbhar’ funding campaign, targets Rs 100 crore

In a major push to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ organisation, the BJP unit in Assam is launching a mega fundraising campaign that will be operational from January 1 to 31 across the state.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi We have talked about a ‘self-reliant’ India, for which we as an organization of BJP also need to contribute a lot. Therefore, we have to consider completing the three K’s. These three KS stand for worker – of whom Assam has a strong heritage, offices – our offices across the state and kosh – which means money for the organisation,” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday.

The fundraising campaign will be carried out by the workers for the organization and on behalf of themselves. Funds will be raised by party workers and donations will be sought from their family members and there will be no external source of funding. Coupons are printed for ₹50, ₹100, ₹500 and ₹1,000 donations. The Assam unit is hoping to reach out to 42 lakh families and is setting itself a target of collecting Rs 100 crore.

Once this amount is deposited, it will be made a fixed deposit and its interest will be used to run BJP offices at district as well as mandal level. In the 33 administrative districts of Assam, the BJP has 40 district offices, and smaller offices run in 404 mandals. While in many places the district offices are owned by the party, the divisional offices have been let out.

MP Dr Rajdeep Roy told CNN-News18, “It is a huge push for us as an organization to move from strength to strength as we are now reaching out to all 27,000 booths in the number of vacant seats sanctioned by the Congress. are in position. , This is a one-of-its-kind initiative when we are collecting funds for ourselves.”

Similar exercise has been done by BJP-ruled states including Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. However, Assam has started this fund collection drive in the North-East.

Emphasizing on the importance, Himanta said, “It is extremely important for any organization to be self-reliant in any state, where today you may be in government and tomorrow you will not be. But you still need to keep the organization running smoothly. Funds are critical to any organization and its performance.”

It was in 2016 when for the first time in the history of the North-Eastern state of Assam, the BJP succeeded in coming to power with Sarbananda Sonowal as its Chief Minister, followed by history again in 2021 and the BJP repeated its government, Has been made. Apart from the Congress, it is only the second party to form the government continuously in Assam this time with Sarma as the chief minister.
