Kanpur: Middle order batsman Ryan Parag‘s aggressive knock of 91 runs helped Assam post a total of 265 runs in its first innings against UP on the opening day of their four-day Ranji Trophy match being played at Chaudhary Banarasi Lal Cricket stadium on Thursday.
UP, in reply, scored 10 for no loss in its first innings when umpires called the day.Earlier in the morning Shubham Mandal and Rishab Das gave a moderate start to their team scoring 57 runs in their opening wicket stand. Ankit Rajput broke their partnership claiming Rishab Das for 30. Thereafter, he sent back Pallav Das two down for 67. Assam recovered in the third wicket stand of Subham Mandal and Ryan. They added 88 runs in their partnership.
Riyan played an attacking game and scored 91 runs blasting one hit to the fence and 5 mighty sixes in 79 balls. His prized wicket was scalped by Aaquib Khan when Samarth Singh held him. The next batter Gokul Sharma too faced UP bowlers with confidence and he scored 49 runs consisting of 6 boundaries and a six in 98 balls. He was trapped in front of the wicket by Karan Sharma. In fact, after the fall of Ryan, wickets fell at regular intervals and Assam lost its six wickets after adding 77 runs. No other batsmen could offer resistance to UP bowlers. For UP, Aaquib Khan and Karan Sharma bagged 3 wickets each. Ankit Rajput bagged 2 wickets.
Madhav and Samarth Singh opened UP’s movements cautiously. It was bad luck that Singh was retired hurt on 2 at close Madhav Kaushik and Priyam Garg were on the crease. Madhav had scored 8 runs and Garg had to open his account.
