Ashoke Pandit Seeks Action, Demands Apology From IFFI Jury Head Over The Kashmir Files Remark

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit has criticized IFFI jury chief Nadav Lapid for calling Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files ‘obscene’ and ‘propaganda’. In a series of tweets, Pundit reprimanded Lapid for his remarks, condemning it and calling it a ‘shameless act of misogyny’.

“I have strong objection to the language used by Shri Nadav Lapid for #kashmirFiles. Portraying the massacre of 3 lakh #Kashmiri Hindus cannot be called obscene. As a filmmaker and a Kashmiri Pandit, I condemn this brazen act towards the victims of terrorism.”

Ashoke Pandit further requested Union Minister Anurag Thakur to take action against Nadav Lapid and said, “Dear @ianuragthakur ji. As a Kashmiri Pandit and a victim of genocide, I demand a serious action against Mr. #NadavLapid Jury Head of IFFI 2022 for obscene portrayal of our tragedy. He has rubbed salt on our wounds and therefore he should apologise. #KashmirFiles.”

For Anwars during the closing ceremony of the 53rd International Film Festival India (IFFI), held in Goa on Monday, IFFI jury chief and Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid criticized The Kashmir Files and called it a ‘propaganda, obscene film’. “We were all puzzled and surprised by the 15th film, The Kashmir Files. It struck us as a propaganda, vulgar film, inappropriate for the artistic competition section of such a prestigious film festival. I feel completely comfortable sharing these feelings openly with you here on this platform. Since the spirit of being a festival is also to acknowledge an important discussion that is essential to art and life,” he said.
