Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal intervention to ensure adequate supply of coronavirus vaccines in the state to prevent a possible third wave. In a letter to the Prime Minister, he said the state has built up the capacity to vaccinate over 15 lakh people in a day, but the pace of the vaccination drive is limited by the extent of supplies received from the Centre.

Gehlot said, “The daily average of vaccine doses received for more than 18 years since the start of the vaccination campaign has been only 3 to 4 lakhs.” He said that COVID-appropriate behavior and vaccination is the only way to effectively combat the menace of coronavirus. Gehlot said, “In order to ensure 100 percent vaccination to prevent the third wave of Kovid and to ensure that people can resume their livelihood activities, I would like to personally intervene and ask the concerned in the state.” To ensure adequate supply of vaccines for in his letter.

The Chief Minister said that the current COVID situation in the State is relatively better as the cases are decreasing rapidly, but also mentioned that the second wave had a far greater impact in the State. He said that the State has done exemplary COVID management during both the first and second wave, and added that it is equally or even more important to take steps to prevent the occurrence of the third wave.

He also said that Rajasthan is one of the best performers in the vaccination campaign. More than 2.36 crore people in the state have already been vaccinated and it has achieved negative (less than 0%) vaccine wastage, he said.

Over 70 lakh people will be given a second dose by the end of July, he said, requesting the supply of more doses.
