Ashok Gehlot Accuses Delhi Police Of ‘Torturing’ Wrestlers, Asks Amit Shah To Take Notice

Jaipur, May 4 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday condemned the scuffle between protesting policemen and wrestlers at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and alleged that the police were “harassing” them. Gehlot urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take cognizance of the incident. “When Rahul Gandhi spoke about the harassment of women during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Delhi Police reached (at his residence) to inquire about the women. Now the champion daughters who made the country proud have been demanding justice for several days. Have been.” Gehlot said that after complaining about harassment at Jantar Mantar, instead of taking action on his complaint, the Delhi Police is torturing him. “The Union Home Minister should take cognizance of the incident,” he said.

Olympic medalist and MLA from Sadulpur in Churu district Krishna Poonia supported the players in their fight for justice on Thursday. Poonia and the players marched from the main gate of Rajasthan University to Gandhi Circle, where they staged a protest.

“I stand with my sportsperson sisters in this fight for justice. I am in support of international wrestlers and demand immediate arrest of Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Singh on charges of sexual harassment,” Poonia told reporters. He said the BJP was “sheltering” Singh and if it was anyone else, he would have been put behind bars.

Several wrestlers have been protesting at Jantar Mantar since April 23 alleging sexual harassment against WFI chief Singh, a Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Uttar Pradesh. The protesters are demanding criminal action against Singh for alleged sexual harassment and intimidation of seven female wrestlers, one of whom is a minor.
