Ashleigh Barty defeats Danielle Collins to become first domestic Australian Open singles champion since 1978 – Henry’s Club

The world number one dominated the tournament throughout the tournament and won the historic title without losing a single set.

Australian tennis fans have waited more than four decades to be crowned their own Australian Open champion, with the last home victory coming courtesy of Chris O’Neill.

Barty’s Grand Slam tally is now at three – her previous titles coming at the French Open in 2019 and Wimbledon in 2021 – and the 25-year-old is currently the most dominant force on the women’s tour.

With much of her career still ahead of her, the only question remaining around Barty’s Grand Slam credentials is: how many?
