New Delhi: Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin expressed enthusiasm as Joe Root And David Malana Battle of England staged on the third day of the ongoing first Ashes Test at the Gabba in Brisbane on Friday.
England were bowled out for 147 in the first innings but skipper Root and Malan kept the visitors’ ship steady on Friday despite early setbacks in the second essay.
Ashwin feels England will do well in the first session on Saturday, with the fifth day of the Test going to be the highest on Sunday.
Ashwin tweeted, “It’s all happening at the Gabba and if England can beat the 1st session tomorrow, this could be the 5th day of the worst ever.”

Also, Root on Friday broke former captain Michael Vaughan’s record after scoring the most runs in the longest format of the game by an English batsman in a calendar year.
The England captain had recorded a nil in the first innings but scored a classy half-century to overtake Vaughan in the second essay.
Vaughan scored 1481 runs in 2002 and Root came close to breaking his record in 2018 with 1477 runs. The England captain finally overtook Vaughan as he scored a classy half-century on Friday in the first Test.
At stumps, England were trailing by 220/2– 58 runs. Malan and Root have played unbeaten innings of 80 and 86 runs respectively.
