after losing by a narrow margin Ashes 2023 opener England head coach Brendon McCullum has suggested major bowling changes in his playing XI for the second Test. The former Kiwi skipper revealed that fast bowler Mark Wood is in contention for the second match which begins on June 28 at Lord’s.

The 33-year-old Mark Wood has had an impressive run in Test cricket, taking 90 wickets in just 28 matches. But the right-arm pacer has struggled to find a regular place in England’s red-ball team due to a series of injuries. His presence has also been limited due to the number of quality pace options available to the Ben Stokes-led side.

James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Ollie Robinson played as specialist fast bowlers in the First Test at Edgbaston. But the trio failed to make much of an impact against Australia’s in-form batsmen. Anderson managed only one wicket and was restricted to just 17 overs in the second innings.

Apart from Wood, England have Chris Woakes, Josh Tongue and Matthew Potts available on the bench. But McCullum suggested that Wood made a real difference and would be considered for selection for the second Test.

“Woody is a great bowler. He makes a real difference and will always be considered for selection – especially on wickets that require a bit more pace. That’s the beauty of having a good team: we have These are the players to choose from, McCullum was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

McCullum downplays talk of controversial spat with Ollie Robinson Usman Khawaja Day three at Edgbaston. The Kiwi veteran said it was a normal reaction from Robinson as such incidents happen all the time in competitive matches.

McCullum said, “I think it happens in all international cricket. It’s two competitive teams and desperate to try and perform for their countries.”
