Aryan Khan, 23, and seven others were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau after a drug raid on a Goa-bound cruise ship on October 3. Since the NCB could not close the investigation within the mandated 24 hours, on 4 October it had sought, and received, extension of the custody of the suspects, including Aryan. After the fresh custody ended on 7 October, he was presented before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate with a petition for further extension, which was rejected by the court. Subsequently, Aryan’s lawyers applied for his bail, which was turned down by the court and he was sent to Arthur Road Jail along with others.
Meanwhile, Aryan’s parents Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan have yet to make any public appearances or visit him in custody. Instead, Pooja Dadlani is acting as a mediator between Aryan and the Khan family. During the hearing on Aryan’s bail on October 8, there was news of Pooja also being present inside the court and she also became emotional after the court refused bail.
