Lhamu is likely to win unopposed since no other candidate has submitted papers by the deadline on Tuesday. Result will be declared on Friday after scrutiny of his/her papers and the time for withdrawal of candidature is over

BJP candidate Sering Lhamu is the only candidate for the February 27 bypoll to Lumla seat in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district, an election official said here.

Lhamu is likely to win unopposed since no other candidate has submitted papers by the deadline on Tuesday. The result will be declared on Friday after scrutiny of his papers and the time for withdrawal of candidature is over.

Although the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA), the state’s lone regional political party, had nominated a former village headman as its candidate, he withdrew from the race and did not file nomination.

“BJP candidate Tsering Lhamu is the only candidate for the bypoll,” the official said. He said the documents would be scrutinized on Wednesday.

Lhamu is the wife of sitting MLA Jambe Tashi, whose death necessitated the by-election.

Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Liken Koyu said, “The result will be announced by the District Electoral Officer of Tawang on February 10, which is the last date for withdrawal of papers.”

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu thanked the people of Lumla constituency for supporting Lhamu.

“The people of Lumla have displayed a rare kind of love and affection for the late brother Jambe Tashi. I am sure Mrs Tsering Lhamu ji will not only carry forward the vision of late Jambe ji but also complete his unfinished projects dedicated to Umla constituency,” tweeted Khandu.
