Arjun Kapoor reveals he was rejected by Ishaqzaade producer Aditya Chopra in his first look test

Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor rose to fame with his debut film Ishaqzaade (2012). From 2 States to Half Girlfriend, Arjun enthralled the audience. He recently completed ten years in the industry. In a new interview, Arjun revealed that producer Aditya Chopra rejected him in his first look test with Yash Raj Films.

during the chat Bollywood Hungama, Arjun recalls his struggling days in the film industry. Arjun revealed that he did not want to make his debut with the support of his father Boney Kapoor as he felt it was the easiest way and termed it as a ‘safety net’.

Arjun then went on to say that he had gone for the audition and was rejected by Aditya Chopra. “Aditya Chopra first saw my pics and said Yeh toh actor nahi banhi hai, isse hum support rahein… (He may not be an actor, we might as well cast him as an assistant…) He was not very impressed with my images,” he said.

Arjun had never met Aditya or the late filmmaker Yash Raj Chopra at that time. “I met a lot of people since I grew up in the industry, I won’t lie, I had never met Adi Sir,” he shared.

He also recalled that at one point the casting director of YRF, Shanu Sharma took him under his wing and for six months he polished his craft and lost more weight. Arjun said, “Adi decided reluctantly and asked me to try on screen.”

The audition that Aditya saw was the uncut version of Arjun with the casting director after the scene. “He said, ‘Accha is mein kuch rang hai’ (He has other talents too). He can do other things too, he is not one dimensional and that is how I reached for my first film,” the Panipat actor recalled.

He further admitted to having a family legacy, but starting out in the industry without the help of his family was a dream come true for him.

Arjun made his debut in 2012 with Ishaqzaade opposite Parineeti Chopra. Next, the actor has The Ladykiller and Kutty in the pipeline.
