AR Rahman appointed ambassador of Indo-UK Culture Platform

Music legend AR Rahman has been named ambassador of the British Council’s ‘India-UK Together Season of Culture’, which aims to promote collaboration between emerging artists. To mark the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, the ‘Mausam of Culture’ was officially launched here on Tuesday by Britain’s Deputy High Commissioner to India John Thomson and British Council Director (India) Barbara Wickham. Rahman said that as an artist, it is a pleasure to be part of an innovative cultural program that supports creative excellence and artistic appreciation; and brings together diverse audiences.

“Today creative expression and exchange can nurture young talent and create a global platform for fair and equitable access to the arts,” he said.

Wickham said Rahman has been an important mentor to ‘Sanskruti Ka Mausam’ and his work and professional journey truly embodies ‘Sanskruti Ka Mausam’ – working together, and artistic production that captures the imagination of the world.

Over 1,400 artists showcase their collaborations in front of millions of spectators across India, UK, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland through a wide range of arts such as theatre, dance, visual arts, literature, music, architecture, design, fashion, technology will do. art, and new media art.

The ‘Season of Culture’ aims to advance the work of the British Council in India and strengthen India-UK cooperation in the areas of arts, English and education.

Wickham added that people from both countries will have the opportunity to experience the innovative and exciting creative work of some of the most promising UK and Indian artists who are driving the incorporation of creativity and creative technology.
