Apple’s mixed reality headset could have 5G, Wi-Fi 6 and start production in Q4 2022: Report – Times of India

Apple’s first mixed reality headset is expected to support 5G and could be equipped with Wi-Fi 6 for lower latency and higher bandwidth. According to a report by AppleInsider, the mixed reality headset from the tech giant may also start its production in the fourth quarter of 2022. There is no information on the announcement date or shipping details of this device, but the report does have some key details about the device.
The report states that Apple Wi-Fi 6 is trying to reduce the need for a wired connection between the headset and the computer by developing the connection. Faster Wi-Fi is expected to reduce input lag and provide users with a better wireless connection experience. Wi-Fi 6, or 802.11ax, can be used to connect a large number of devices. Sony and Meta may adopt this technology in 2022 as well. However, the first Apple AR headset is expected to have a large head mounted display and not at all lightweight and user-friendly like Apple Glass.
Business Insider reports that Apple’s AR-VR headset will also be released in 2022. This Apple device is expected to be very expensive as it will come equipped with advanced display, sensor, chip and even avatar-based features. The AR-VR capabilities in this headset are “expected to provide a mixed reality experience that can handle games in high quality virtual reality”, the report said.
The tool may target developers and business customers more than regular consumers. It is also expected to lead the “next wave of the user interface revolution” and bust the myth that AR/VR devices are only good for gaming. The report also stated that the upcoming headset will be like the Oculus Quest and that some prototypes also had external cameras to make use of the AR features.
Other reports suggested that this headset will only work with iPhone or MacBook Pro and that Apple is working on a 5nm SoC, display driver and image sensor for this device. Meta (Facebook), Sony and HTC Vive are the top players in the virtual reality space.
