Apples Emergency SOS via Satellite Saves Two Women Stranded in Canada

New Delhi: Emergency SOS through the satellite feature on tech giant Apple’s iPhone has helped rescue two women stranded in the Canadian province of ‘British Columbia’ (BC). The women found that an accident had closed a highway while returning to Alberta, Canada, so they chose the Holmes Forest Service Road after using Google Maps to find an alternate route, AppleInsider reports.

They eventually reached the spot where the grader had stopped, but the road was only partially plowed. “Then it was basically a wall of ice and when they tried to get through it, they got trapped,” said Dwight Yochim, senior manager for BC Search and Rescue. ,Also Read: Best Girl Child Investment Plan 2023: These 5 Plans To Consider In India,

Yochim also said they were about 12 miles down the road without knowing where they were, stuck in snow and out of cell service range. “There’s no cell service there, but one of them has a new Apple phone that has SOS and is activated for SOS and to my knowledge, this is the first use of SOS in British Columbia,” he said. ,Also read: Apple Watch saved the life of a pregnant woman – know how,

Following use of the facility by the women, the RCMP and Robeson Valley Search and Rescue used the GPS location to plan the operation, determine what happened and come to the conclusion that the women must have taken the logging road.

Yochim said, “They found them, pulled their vehicle out, and turned them around on the way back.” “It’s the kind of thing that could potentially save their lives.” Furthermore, he mentioned that without the Emergency SOS, it could take more than a week for the team to find the women, the report said.
