Apple Issued iOS 14.7.1 Software update for iPhones last month. The update plugged a security hole that was said to have been exploited by hackers. After the release, the company has stopped signing iOS 14.7. it means that iPhone Users who have already updated their device to iOS 14.7.1 will not be able to downgrade to iOS 14.7.
Apple often ends up signing legacy code after a new iOS build is released. The move is aimed at protecting users from nefarious actors seeking to exploit the discovered vulnerabilities. This allows Apple to have more devices on the latest iOS versions.
As mentioned earlier, iOS 14.7.1 was released in July this year. As well as fixing a security vulnerability, the update also fixed a bug that prevented unlocking iPhones with Touch ID apple watch. It was available for the iPhone 6s and later iPhones.
In the release notes for iOS 14.7.1, Apple stated that an application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Saying that it is aware of a report that the issue may be actively exploited, Apple recommended all iPhone users to install the latest iOS update.
