Earlier today, Samantha Ruth Prabhu also reacted to the incident and called for change.

Director and screenwriter Aparna Sen has opened up about the horrific rape and murder case of the Kolkata doctor. On Tuesday, Sen spoke exclusively to CNN-News18 when she questioned the West Bengal state government and appreciated the Supreme Court for taking suo-moto cognizance in the case.

“I am very glad that the Supreme Court took suo-moto cognizance of this gruesome incident. The problem is, why did they have to? Why did the state government deal with it in a better way? What they did was unthinkably bad. They shielded Sandip Ghosh, the principal of RG Kar College is unacceptable. I am very glad that the case is now in the Supreme Court and I am hopeful that the case will now be solved,” Sen said.

Aparna further questioned the state government’s decision to restrict women’s working hours and called it “regressive”. “This is such a regressive step. It is laughable. How can you do this? It is saying that we are unable to protect or give security to our female or transgender workforce. Let the state government admit that they are not capable of giving security to the female workers,” she added.

Aparna Sen is not the first celebrity who has expressed anger to the rape and murder case of a doctor in Kolkata. Earlier today, Samantha Ruth Prabhu also reacted to the incident and called for change. “It is the need of the hour and we are really looking forward to some change. It is the need of the hour. I hope the change comes really soon,” she said.

Last week, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Preity Zinta also reacted to the incident. “12 years later, the same story, the same protest. But we are still waiting for change,” Kareena wrote. On the other hand, Preity Zinta also expressed anger and called the Kolkata rape and murder case “heartbreaking” and “disgusting”. Later, Hrithik Roshan also demanded ‘harsh’ punishment for the accused. Prior to this, Kangana Ranaut also called the incident “horrible” and demanded a CBI probe into the case. Alia Bhatt, Swara Bhasker and Richa Chadha also expressed their outrage and demanded justice.
