Another Wb Artisan Flees With Gold Of Jeweller, Third Incident In Two Days | Rajkot News – Times of India

RAJKOT: Another artisan from West Bengal fled with gold worth Rs seven lakh from a jeweller in the city.
Police booked Nitai Kristobera, a native of West Midnapore, following a complaint lodged by jeweller Rajni Lodhiya who runs Om Somnath jewellery firm in Soni Bazar.
Lodhiya told police that he had employed Nitai about a year-and-a-half ago. Nitai was given a total of 265 g gold in different tranches to make pendants. He made the pendants using 118.3 g but escaped with 146 g worth Rs seven lakh on August 28.
When Nitai was not found at his house and his phone was switched off, Lodhiya lodged a complaint.
Over a dozen offences of artisans fleeing with gold have been reported after the lockdown in Rajkot, a hub of gold jewellery making.
Around three days ago too, Robil Hussain Sheikh, an artisan from WB had fled with gold Rs 28 lakh from Sanjay Dhakan, a jeweller.
Police said it’s difficult to nab the artisans as they don’t return to their natives after fleeing with gold but go to other cities and take up jobs. They also change their mobile numbers. A police official also pointed out that in majority of the cases, jewellers don’t inform the cops when they got to know of hte theft as they try to trace the artisans themselves.
“As a result, precious time is lost. If we are informed on time, we can alert railway or other agencies to nab them,” the official said.
