The exclusion of Prithvi Shaw from India’s playing XI against New Zealand during the first T20I in Ranchi has led to comparisons with Sanju Samson.
Team led by Hardik Pandya India India host New Zealand at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi on Friday, 27 January, looking to continue their winning momentum.
After a 3-0 clean sweep during the ODI series, a young team without choice Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma will be hoping to impress.
Hardik won the toss and decided to drop Jitesh Sharma, Mukesh Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal and Prithvi Shaw from the playing XI.
Shaw recently scored 370 against Assam and will return to the senior team in July 2021 after last playing for India.
During his absence, fans were unhappy with the decision not to include the 23-year-old Hardik after the opener played some stellar cricket in the domestic circuit after being given a call-up for the New Zealand T20Is.

Instead they decided to go with Shubman Gill, who is going through a purple patch and is unbeaten at the moment, while Kishan has also played well of late.
Fans, however, felt that Shaw was still not given enough chances to impress on the international stage.

Meanwhile, Hardik had indicated in the press conference before the match that Shaw might have to wait for the opportunity.

Responding to a reporter’s question, Pandya said, ‘No sir. Shubman has done really well so he will get his first chance. In fact, there is no dearth of opportunities with him.”
“Shubman will start because the way he is batting, he will definitely be in the team,” he added.
