A Rajinikanth film is no less than a festival for his ardent fans. As the megastar gears up for the release of Annaatthe (Big Brother in Tamil) almost two years after his last theatrical release Darbar (2020), his fans have also pulled off all stops to make sure that the film The run-up of is just as grand.

Continuing its years-long tradition, Maharashtra State Head Rajni Fans Welfare Association (MSHRFWA) – a leading fan club of Thalaivas in the city, based out of Chembur – celebrated at Sion Multiplex from 3:30 am onwards. On Thursday, after which they will watch the first show on the first day of the film.

However, the proceedings will begin on a calm note – keeping Rajinikanth’s wishes in mind, fans have decided to follow all necessary precautions due to COVID-19.

MSHRFWA President Dr Thalapathy SK Athimoolam revealed, “We will begin the proceedings with Satyanarayana Puja inside the multiplex premises. Thalaiva has recently undergone a surgery and the puja is specially kept for her healthy and long life. Normally we worship at Mariamman temple in Sion-Koliwada, but this time we are deferring it due to restrictions. Even the Thalaivas have directly requested us not to gather in large numbers and celebrate keeping in mind all the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).”

Athimoolam further says that he will donate sewing machines and saris to women in need. “Thalaiva turns 72 next month and keeping this in mind, we will donate 72 sewing machines and 72 saris to some women, who we have selected from the local community after screening. Thalaivas do a lot for the community and this is the least we can do for them.”

A 72-feet long cut-out of the superstar will be installed outside the cinema hall on Wednesday evening. “We have made a special 45-feet long garland for the cut-out,” he says. We request fans to avoid the ritual of Pal Abhishekam [milk offering]; They can instead donate milk to the poor. Before the film we will see song and dance performances by his fans. We have arranged for banjo and some bands who will play the song of Thalaiva. Some of his fans will also perform a coconut breaking ceremony where they will break 72 coconuts for the prosperity of Thaliava. After the screening, there will be another puja in the theater itself.”
