Annaatthe First Show: Rajinikanth fans perform havan outside Mumbai theater at 4 am; kids join the celebration

It was 4 a.m. in Mumbai, but the street outside Sion’s PVR theater woke up already on Friday morning for Rajinikanth’s latest film Annaatthe. Superstar Rajinikanth has gifted his fans a wonderful Diwali with the release of Annaatthe. The Tamil action-drama is directed by Siva and also stars Nayanthara, Keerthy Suresh, Prakash Raj, Khushboo and others.

The multiplex was so full of excitement that it looked like it belonged to a completely different time zone. Not only adults but also children below the age of four were roped in for the screening of the film.

While the first show of the film was officially scheduled for 8 am, the President of Maharashtra State Pramukh Rajni Fans Welfare Association (MSHRFWA), Dr. A major fan – a special show was arranged by Thalapathy SK Athimoolam at 5.00 am. Thalaiva’s club in the city which is based out of Chembur. All the three screens of the multiplex were booked for fans who were dressed in crisp white shirts and were eagerly waiting for the superstar’s latest release.

Rajguru Prakash, a mechanic by profession, was waiting for the release of Rajinikanth’s film for the last two years. He was carrying a bag full of flowers and garlands on the posters of Thalaiva, “Rajinikanth is bigger than God to me. I was very angry with Coronavirus because we couldn’t see any of his new films. It is indeed a big day because finally, Thalaiva’s film is releasing today.”

Prakash also got a whistle, which he plans to use to create cheer during the entry scenes of the superstar. “I have been watching Thalaivar movies since the age of 5. In our hometown in Thanjavur, we would walk for five kilometers with lots of milk to do ‘Abhishek’ on the poster of our favorite hero. We used to do this here but now There are a lot of restrictions. I will still try my best to impress Rajni sir who is my world. I have more faith than my mother.”

The 41-year-old actor is such an ardent fan that he even got Rajinikanth’s tattoo done when he was just eight years old. “My friend Shiva and I got this tattoo done together. We have seen countless Rajinikanth movies together. No actor in the world can even come close to him. He is simply wonderful. I will watch the film at least thrice.”

Athimoolam, who organized the show, also printed a special ticket for the screening, “This is the lease we can do for him. Whatever we do, little will happen.”

Bala, who is undoubtedly a huge fan of the actor, expressed his disappointment over the delay in the release, “It was supposed to release in October last year. It was later shifted to January on the occasion of Pongal but the second wave of coronavirus pushed everything forward. I am glad that the film is finally releasing.”

“I never miss any Rajni sir film. I don’t care about the story or the cast or the director. It is Rajini sir who matters to me… Without watching Annaatthe, I know this film will be a huge hit,” says Rangeshwar Rao, a vegetable vendor from Valapari, a village in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district.

Sagar Patil along with two of his friends came to see Rajinikanth doing some magic on the big screen. “We are non-Tamilians – I am a Maharashtrian but still a staunch Rajinikanth fan. Watching his film with some hardcore fans is a different experience. This would not be another film. Rajini’s films are a festival in themselves.

“We won’t be able to hear their dialogues inside because people just whistle, hoot and dance but it’s going to be fun,” he says with a big smile.

Like many others, Sagar also feels that Rajinikanth is the God of Indian cinema. “His style is unmatched. He can sleep through any role and still give his best performance. In real life he is such a humble person and helps many people. No one can be a bigger superstar than Rajinikanth.

Soon after the puja ended, dhol and banjo started performing and fans ran inside the theater before taking selfies with Rajinikanth’s cutouts.

As soon as the film began, the well-known music with the words ‘Superstar Rajni’ flashed on the screen and the theater erupted with joy.
