Andhra Pradesh seeks PM Modi’s intervention on Krishna basin dispute

Andhra Pradesh government has decided to find the prime minister Narendra ModiInterference in Krishna water dispute with Telangana. The issue took a serious turn especially after comments from the National Green Tribunal and the Center demanding a detailed project report of the Srisailam power project.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed serious dissatisfaction with the Telangana government in an urgently convened cabinet meeting. The CM said he would seek Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention and attacked Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for issuing orders for power generation in the Srisailam power project.

“We will not settle for using our share of water from the Krishna basin and will not allow Telangana to violate projects and water withdrawals,” he said.

Jagan Reddy said, “I am refraining from talking much on the water dispute as it will cause trouble to the people of Andhra Pradesh in Telangana and Hyderabad.”

The Andhra CM objected that Telangana was oblivious to his government’s objections and Krishna Board’s norms on power generation.

Jagan Mohan Reddy presided over the cabinet meeting at his camp office in Velagapudi. “We will seek PM Modi’s intervention on other issues of river water and power generation and illegal projects in Telangana which are violating the Jal Board’s directions,” he said.

He said that there is not enough water in the Srisailam project area to generate electricity. He alleged that the TRS government was ignoring the rights of Andhra and taking forward the power projects in violation of the rules.
