Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh on Friday reported two more cases of Omicron, taking the state’s tally to four. According to health officials, this type was detected in two international travelers who arrived here last week.
A 41-year-old woman, who had arrived from Kuwait on December 19 and left for Nedunuru Pedapalem village in East Godavari district after landing in Vijayawada, tested positive, officials said.
According to a health official, after the woman tested positive for Covid, her sample was sent for genome sequencing to the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad, where she was found to be infected with the Omicron variant.
In the second case, a 33-year-old man who had reached Visakhapatnam from UAE on December 15 was diagnosed with COVID. He was brought to the hospital after complaining of mild fever. His sample was also sent to CCMB, Hyderabad for genome sequencing and he was found infected with the new strain on 23 December. This is the first case of Omicron in Visakhapatnam.
Till date, a total of 53 international travelers and 9 contacts were found to be COVID-19 positive and all the samples were sent for genome sequencing, said Director, Public Health.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s largest health facility LNJP Hospital has reported 40. have reported omicron cases so far. However, 19 of these patients have already been discharged.
“Ninety percent of patients have no symptoms. The rest have mild symptoms like sore throat, low-grade fever and migraine. We are giving them multivitamins and paracetamol tablets as part of the treatment. There is no need . Any other medicine,” said a senior LNJP doctor.
