Andhra Pradesh: Four fishermen missing from Machilipatnam coast, search continues

Krishna District Collector P Ranjit Basha said the four fishermen had on July 3 sent a message to the boat’s owner, B Yedukondalu, seeking help, saying they were stuck in the sea near the Anthravedi area.

Four fishermen who had landed in the Bay of Bengal off Machilipatnam coast in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh went missing, a senior official said on Tuesday. Krishna District Collector P Ranjit Basha said that four fishermen from Kambelpet, Machilipatnam went to sea on July 2 in a mechanized boat to catch fish from Machilipatnam port and on July 3 they sent a message to the boat owner B Yedukondalu seeking his help. It was that they were stuck in the sea near Antarvedi area. He said Yedukondalu had sent another boat to rescue the fishermen, but they were not traced for three days.

The Collector said that he had informed the Kakinada and Visakhapatnam Coast Guards and the State Disaster Management and Flag Office Commandant Chief, Eastern Navy, Vizag and Marine Police about the missing fishermen, but the fishermen are still missing. The boat owner has also lodged a complaint with Machilipatnam Marine Police Station.

The missing fishermen are V Chinamastan, R China Nancharaiah, M Venkateswara Rao and C Narasimha Rao. Coast Guard Uttam Sailor SN Raju said, “We are searching for the missing boat and fishermen with the help of ICGS Priyadarshini ship since Monday, but they are still not traceable.”
