Andhra Pradesh cabinet reconstituted, 25 ministers take oath; 11 retained from previous team

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday reconstituted the state cabinet, inducting 13 fresh faces and re-inducting 11 from his first team. Veteran MLA Dharmana Prasad Rao has also been taken into the cabinet, making him the senior-most minister.

Governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan administered the oath of office and secrecy to 25 cabinet members at a public function near the state secretariat in the capital Amaravati. On expected lines, no one from the Legislative Council was taken into the Cabinet.

The new council of ministers has been formed entirely on the basis of caste and community, with the lion’s share of 10 seats going to the backward classes. Two, including the chief minister, are from minority communities, five from scheduled castes and one from scheduled castes. tribes.

Four each from Reddy and Kapu communities have also been included. There are four women members in the cabinet, which is already one.

The Kammas, Kshatriyas and Vaishya communities, which had one representative each in the previous cabinet, were now completely excluded. The Brahmin community was again denied a cabinet berth. At least seven of the state’s 26 districts did not get any representation in the new cabinet.

The ruling YSR Congress described it as a social cabinet with 70 per cent representation from BC, SC, ST and minority communities. When he formed his first cabinet in June 2019, the CM had announced that he would reform after two and a half years (December 2021) and brought in 90 per cent new faces, retaining only 10 per cent (3 members).

Besides the chief minister, only two ministers were to be retained, but Jagan, however, brought back 11 from the previous cabinet, which was made to resign on 7 April. Amjath Basha Sheikh Bepari and K Narayana Swamy, who served as deputy chiefs. Ministers have been re-inducted in the previous cabinet.

Seniors like Botsa Satyanarayana, PRC Reddy, P Vishwaroop, A Suresh and Bugna Rajendranath also secured new positions. S Appala Raju, Ch Venugopal Krishna, G Jayaram and T Vanitha got second chance due to caste count.

Film star RK Roja, who completed his second term as an MLA, finally made it to the cabinet. Ambati Rambabu, another senior leader who got off the bus in 2019, also handled it this time.

Gudivada Amarnath, P Rajanna Dora, B Mutyala Naidu, Dadisetty Ramalingeswara Rao, KV Nageswara Rao, K Satyanarayana, J Ramesh, V Rajani, M Nagarjuna, K Govardhan Reddy and Usha Sricharan became the new ministers.
