Andhra Pradesh: After schools reopen, 9 students test positive for COVID-19

Chennai: Around nine students of two government schools in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district were found to be corona virus positive on Monday. According to reports, as schools reopened in several parts of the state recently, random Covid-19 tests were conducted among students at a primary school in Pedapalaparu village and Guraja village on Friday. As the results came out on Sunday, it was learned that eight high school students and one Class 3 student of the primary school tested positive for the virus.

The school remained closed on Monday and Tuesday following the positive situation. The education officer said that the leave would be extended if needed and the entire school would be sanitized. The students were kept in home isolation and samples were taken from other students for the novel coronavirus.

Meanwhile, schools in Andhra Pradesh, which remained closed due to the second wave of novel coronavirus, reopened on August 16. The School Education Minister also directed private schools not to conduct online classes and start regular classes.

On Monday, Andhra Pradesh recorded 1,002 new novel coronavirus cases within 24 hours, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 20,03,342 so far. There were 1,508 more discharges in the state, taking the total number of active cases in the state to 14,159. 12 patients have died in the state. East Godavari recorded the highest number of cases with 265 people testing positive for the virus, followed by Cuddapah with 132 new cases, Nellore 118 and Chittoor reporting 113 new positive COVID-19 cases.
