Amaravati murderThe main mastermind of Umesh Kolhe’s murder has been arrested from Nagpur. Police said the arrested person has been identified as Irfan Khan, owner of a Nagpur-based NGO. So far seven have been arrested. The crime branch of Amravati city police arrested local resident Irfan Khan (32) from Nagpur in the evening. City Police Commissioner Dr Aarti Singh said that he had allegedly hatched a conspiracy to kill Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe (54), who runs a medical shop in Amravati, and involved others.

Earlier, police had arrested Mudassar Ahmed alias Sonu Raza Sheikh Ibrahim (22), Shahrukh Pathan alias Badshasha Hidayat Khan (25), Abdul Taufik alias Nanu Sheikh Taslim (24), Shoeb Khan alias Bhurya Sabir Khan (22), Atib Rashid Aadil Rashid (22) and Yusuf Khan Bahadur Khan (44) In connection with the murder of Kolhe. Sali said that some of the accused had witnessed Kolhe’s movements three days before the murder.

On the basis of the CCTV footage, the police arrested two accused and also seized the knife used in the crime.

What happened on 21st June?

The 54-year-old chemist was stabbed to death in Maharashtra’s Amravati town on June 21 and police suspected the brutal murder in Maharashtra when he wrote a post in support of Nupur Sharma on Facebook. He used to run a chemist’s shop in Amravati by the name of Amit Medical Store.

The incident took place between 10 pm and 10.30 pm, when Kolhe was going home on a two-wheeler after closing his shop. His son Saket (27) and his wife Vaishnavi accompanied him in a separate vehicle. A Home Ministry spokesperson said on Saturday that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) would investigate the murder. The spokesperson tweeted that the NIA will investigate the conspiracy behind the murder of chemist Umesh Kolhe, who was assassinated on June 21.
