megastar Amitabh Bachchan On Monday, on his 79th birthday, he announced that he had terminated his contract with a pan masala brand, saying he was not aware that it ‘belongs to surrogate advertising’. A statement issued by Amitabh said: “‘Kamala Pasand’… A few days after the ad aired, Mr. Bachchan contacted the brand and walked out of it last week. Upon investigation of the sudden move. – It turns out that when Mr Bachchan was associated with the brand, he was not aware that it came under surrogate advertising.”

The statement from Amitabh’s office further read: “Mr Bachchan has terminated the contract with the brand, has written to them for its termination and has returned the money received for the promotion.”

The move comes after the megastar was requested to withdraw himself from a campaign promoting pan masala by a national anti-tobacco organization, saying it would prevent youth from tobacco addiction.

In September, Big B had responded to a social media user who asked him why he chose to endorse the brand.

The cine icon then replied: “If some people are benefiting from an industry, then we should not think ‘why am I joining it?’ If it is an industry then we should also consider it as our industry. Now, you may think I shouldn’t do this, but I get paid for it.”

Meanwhile, the megastar celebrated his 79th birthday today. The ceremony began with Big B’s upcoming producer Anand Pandit, with whom he came together for his latest film Chehre. The actor visited one of Pandit’s luxurious penthouses where the opening ceremony took place. Big B, who is also an avid social media user and regularly keeps his fans updated about his life. So it is only natural that his first birthday post will come from the actor himself.

He shared a collage of his pictures on Instagram and wrote, “… running in 80th..”

On the work front, he has a slew of projects lined up and shows no signs of slowing down despite his age. He will be seen in Jhund, Brahmastra, Mayday, Good Bye, Unchai and Nag Ashwin’s untitled film. Amitabh Bachchan is currently back on television to host Kaun Banega Crorepati.
