Korba (Chhattisgarh): Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday that there has been a decrease in Naxalite violence in the last decade and efforts are being made to rid the country of the Naxalite problem before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Shah was addressing a rally at Indira Stadium in Korba town of Chhattisgarh, a state affected by Maoist violence. Shah said, “Naxal incidents have come down to 509 in 2021, from 2,258 in 2009, when the Congress was in power at the Centre.” He said the Narendra Modi government not only ensured that the youth who took up arms (in Naxal-affected areas) got education and employment, but also worked to eliminate those who wield arms. “Our government’s endeavor is to make the country Naxalism-free before the 2024 parliamentary elections,” he said.
