Amid rising TMC activity, Nadda to visit Tripura to boost cadre morale, congratulate leaders who win civic polls

In his first visit to Tripura after taking over as BJP’s national president, the JP Nadda government will take stock of matters related to the organization and acknowledge the party’s performance in the municipal elections. He will re-emphasize the confidence of the party under Biplab Deb’s leadership in the state.

The two-day yatra, scheduled for January 10 and 11, assumes significance amid the growing activities of the Trinamool Congress. The party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee is taking a stand against the Biplab Deb-led government.

The visit comes even after the BJP’s thumping victory in the recently held civic polls. Nadda’s cadre is expected to enthuse and boost their morale ahead of the 2023 assembly elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited the state this week to inaugurate an integrated terminal at the Maharaja Bir Bikram airport. He talked about the party’s commitment during the assembly elections to bring the diamond model in the state: highways, internet, railways and airways.

The BJP returned to power in the 2018 assembly elections defeating the Communist government of Manik Sarkar, which was in power for 25 years. Also, the state is important for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the BJP’s ideological source, due to its increasing activity over the years in this northeastern state.

Confirming Nadda’s visit, Tripura BJP in-charge Vinod Sonkar said that the party chief will meet all stakeholders during his visit. Asked whether TMC’s attempt to make inroads in the state would be discussed, Sonkar said, “We are loved by the people of Tripura. There is no possibility of the state slipping out of our hands after so many years of fiercely fighting the violent Left government. We are working hard for the betterment of the people.”

The BJP president will address the state executive, explaining the ideology of the party and how the organization works and what to expect from being a party worker. Nadda will also meet all the 329 party leaders who won the civic polls.

The party had won 329 out of 334 seats in the recently held civic polls, of which 112 were unopposed. While there has been a significant increase in the vote share of BJP, the vote share of TMC has also seen a jump as compared to the assembly elections.

Besides this, Nadda is also expected to address the issues of the tribal community along with the unresolved differences between the BJP and its ally, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT).

Nadda will hold meetings with the leaders of the Scheduled Tribes, as well as hold separate meetings with the state cabinet and legislators to understand the issues in the government.
