Amid protests against Agneepath scheme, IAF receives over 94,000 applications for Agniveer in 3 days

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has received over 94,000 applications since the start of the recruitment process under the newly introduced Agneepath scheme. Confirming the development, the official Twitter page of PRO Hyderabad, Ministry of Defense revealed that the Air Force has received 94,281 applications till June 27 at 10 am.

As per the newly introduced Agneepath scheme, the soldiers will be recruited for a service period of four years in the armed forces – Army, Navy and Air Force. One-fourth of these jawans will be brought into regular services after the completion of their tenure. The last date to register on careerindianairforce.cdac.in is July 5. “As of 10:30 am today, 94,281 applicants have registered to become Agniveer Vayu,” the tweet reads.

Agneepath scheme will fill vacancies for personnel below officer rank between 17.5 to 21 years of age. However, there is a relaxation of two years in the upper age limit for this year. To be eligible for recruitment under the Agneepath scheme, a candidate must have passed class 12 or equivalent with at least 50 percent marks in aggregate. It is also mandatory to get 50% marks in English. Candidates who have completed a two-year professional course with at least 50 percent marks in aggregate and English from a COBSE-listed state education board or council can also apply.

The selection of Aginveer Vayu will be through a multi-stage process which includes a written test to be held on July 24. Shortlisted candidates will then be called for physical fitness and medical test.

Selected candidates will be paid a customized monthly package which will be different for each year. Seventy percent of this package will be in the form of in-hand salary while the remaining 30 percent will be deposited in Agniveer Corpus Fund which will be given to the candidates after a period of four years. For the first year, candidates will be paid a package of Rs 30,000 per month, where the salary in hand will be Rs 21,000.

The package in the second year will be Rs 33,000 while the salary in hand will be Rs 23,100. For the third and fourth year, Agniveers will be paid a monthly package of Rs 36,500 and Rs 40,000 and the salary in hand will be Rs 25,550 and Rs 28,000 respectively.
