The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday said that Nana Kate will be its candidate for the upcoming bypoll to the Chinchwad assembly seat in Pune district.
The announcement comes days after Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde urged NCP president Sharad Pawar and Congress leaders (both constituents of the Maha Vikas Aghadi along with the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena) to work together in the state. Maharashtra NCP chief Jayant Patil said in a tweet on Tuesday, “NCP’s Nana Kate will be the Maha Vikas Aghadi candidate for the Chinchwad constituency bypoll.” We are confident that by working together with all the constituents of MVA, we will surely win this election. BJP’s Ashwini Jagtap, wife of late MLA Laxman Jagtap, on Monday filed her nomination for the bypoll to Chinchwad assembly seat, which represents Pimpri Chinchwad township in Pune district.
Besides this, BJP’s Hemant Rasane and Congress leader Ravindra Dhangekar have filed their nomination papers for the bypoll to the Kasba Peth assembly seat.
Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Monday said the saffron party will field its official candidate if the Congress gives an assurance that the Kasba Peth bypoll will go unopposed in case any member of late MLA Mukta Tilak’s family is fielded by the BJP. .
The BJP giving a ticket to local leader Rasne raised eyebrows, even as Mukta Tilak’s husband said that if given a ticket, his family members would have completed their work.
Tuesday is the last day for filing nominations.
The last date for withdrawal of nomination is February 10. The counting of votes will take place on March 2.
