Amid elections, lion’s share to UP in Centre’s tax pie | Lucknow News – Times of India

LUCKNOW: With Uttar Pradesh heading towards an election, the state’s estimated share in the Centre’s tax revenue for the financial year 2022-23 is Rs 1. 46 lakh crore, an increase of about Rs 12,514 crore from the actual allocation in the current financial year . An official in the state’s finance department said that as per the finance commission formula for tax devolution, UP’s share is 17. 9%. In 2021-22, the budget had allocated Rs 1. 19 lakh crore to the state which was revised to Rs 1. 33 lakh crore. “The estimate is based on the finance commission formula which is revised as per actual collections by the Centre,” the official said.
The Budget has also allocated Rs 15,003 crore as Finance Commission Grant to the state. Th is, an official said, is usually given for u rban local bodies, panchayati raj institutions and the state disaster response fund.
As part of centrally sponsored schemes being implemented in the state, the budget has allocated Rs 1,900 crore to UP for implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission (rural). Similarly, with the government focussing on expanding piped water network to all parts of the state under Jal Jivan Mission’s Har Gh ar Nal scheme, Rs 12,000 crore has been allocated for the next financial year.
Forimprovement of road transport and highways, the Center has allocated Rs 16,350 crore to UP. These projects include the 63km Kanpur-Lucknow expressway, 642km Kolkata-Varanasi expressway, 520km SiliguriGorakhpur expressway and 80km international connectivity between Sonauli and Gorakhpur,
In addition, Rs 957 crore has beenallocated for various schemes of the de partment of water resources river development and Gangarejuvenation. Another Rs 6,241 crore has been allocated forSamagra Shiksha Abhiyan,
