New Delhi: Announcing the election schedule for five states, the Election Commission said that the c-Vigil application should be used to report any incident of violation of the model code of conduct by the voters.

The Model Code of Conduct came into force from Saturday with the Election Commission announcing the dates for elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur.

Voting will be held in Uttar Pradesh in seven phases from February 10 to March 7. Polling will be held in Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa on February 14 and in Manipur on February 27 and March 3. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.

Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said that the Election Commission has zero tolerance towards misuse of government machinery for elections.

He also encouraged people to use the cVigil app to report violations of the model code of conduct such as misuse of election machinery.

Chandra said, “Our cVigil application should be used by voters to report any incident of violation of model code of conduct, distribution of funds and freebies. But we will get there,” said Chandra.

Sushil Chandra also said that Suvidha App has been developed for all political parties and contesting candidates for online nomination.

“The alternative facility of online enrollment has been given to the candidates. We want the candidates to use it so that there is less physical contact,” he said.

On candidates with criminal cases, Chandra said the political party should explain why the person was selected despite having a criminal record.

CEC Sushil Chandra said, “It is mandatory for political parties to upload on their website detailed information about persons with pending criminal cases who have been selected as election candidates. To give them a reason to select the candidate. Will happen.”

He also said that the election expenditure per candidate has been increased to Rs. 28 lakh for Manipur and Goa, and Rs. 40 lakh for the remaining three states.
