Amarinder Singh may form his party before Punjab polls 2022: Report

Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is working out the option of forming his own political party. This news has not been confirmed yet, but a report in Hindustan Times has claimed the same.

There is a possibility that the former Punjab CM may also join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as an alliance partner ahead of the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. These speculations are getting air after the Captain met Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.

Amarinder Singh stated that he intends to return to New Delhi to formally end ties with the Congress party. Even though Amarinder has resigned as CM, he is still a full-time member of the Congress party. Thus, the formal end to Capt’s Congress career may soon come to an end.

“I am going to ask G-23 to reach out to the people instead of taking the field, expressing concern on social media,” the captain told Hindustan Times.

On 20 September 2021, Singh stepped down as CM of Punjab, citing the “humiliation” he faced in the Congress party. “In public I felt humiliated and personally hurt because my ties with the Gandhi family date back to the days when Rajiv Gandhi and I were in Doon School in 1954,” he said.

Responding to statements made by Congress’ Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat, Singh said, “If the party did not intend to humiliate me then Navjot Singh Sidhu should be openly criticizing and attacking me on social media and other public platforms. Why was it allowed? month? Why did the party under Sidhu give a free hand to the rebels to curtail my authority?” to ANI.
