The 77th birth anniversary of legendary playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam or SPB was marked on Saturday, June 4. On the occasion, his colleagues and dear friends from the entertainment industry remembered the singer as they paid heartfelt tributes to the late singer. Kamal Haasan shared a heartfelt note on Twitter to wish SP Balasubrahmanyam and said that the singer is always with him with his sweet voice and never-ending jokes.

Kamal Haasan wrote the tweet in Tamil, which translates to, “There is a philosophical phrase that says to be without being. My brother SP Balasubramaniam is the one who goes without. My heartiest birthday wishes to Balu Annayya, the man with the sweetest voice, the never-ending joke and the character who will always be with us.

Veteran singer KS Chitra also wished the late singer by sharing a picture. In the photo, KS Chitra can be seen singing along with SP Balasubrahmanyam at a concert.

“3 years have passed since the kindest and caring veteran SPB Sir left us. He has left a void in our country that cannot be filled. His melodious voice had the unique ability to mesmerize people. You missed forever. Happy birthday, sir,” he wrote in the caption of the tweet.

SP Balasubrahmanyam passed away at the age of 74 on September 25, 2020 following complications from COVID-19. SPB tested positive for COVID-19 in the first week of August that year. But soon his condition deteriorated and he was later shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He remained on ventilator and ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) support till his last breath. During a career spanning 50 years, SPB was widely regarded as one of the finest male playback singers and broke barriers by singing in 16 languages ​​including Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and many more.
