Anurag Kashyap and Amit Trivedi team up once again with DJ Mohabbat for Almost Pyaarr whose jukebox is being appreciated for its new age and quirky vibe.
Be it Dev D (2009) or Manmarziyaan (2018), the pairing of composer Amit Trivedi and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is known to create magic. In fact, it was Dev D’s music album that marked Trivedi’s full-fledged foray into film music and captured the airwaves for its distinctive and unusual sound. They also collaborated on the anthology film Bombay Talkies (2013). And now, he has teamed up once again with DJ Mohabbat for Almost Pyaarr whose jukebox is being appreciated for its new age and quirky vibe. The film also stars Shelly as the lyricist and interestingly, he had penned the lyrics for the songs in Dev D and Manmarziyaan as well.
Trivedi and Shelly worked on the film’s music album for four years, creating songs that present a quirky take on modern romance and young love. The lyricist also spent time with his son and Kashyap’s teenage daughter to understand the language used by Gen Z. Which completely complements the vibe of the film. Talking about it, Kashyap says, “Amit and Shelly spent four years working on the music as it is a very different world lyrically. It was a tough job because Shelly had to let go of the poet in her and sit with her son and her daughter to use the language of today’s generation.”
Talking about working with Trivedi again, Anurag said, “Amit and I have come a long way. It has been a friendship of 15 years and whenever we have worked together, he has given me some unforgettable tunes and this one is no exception. Amit has put his heart and soul into the album of this film and his utmost patience with me in every situation is what I love the most.”
Amit says, “Anurag always has a distinct vision for his films. Dev D was a turning point in my career but we look at each film from a fresh perspective and try to innovate with every collaboration and with DJ Mohabbat album Almost In Love the audience can expect the same.
The album of the film has a total of eight songs – Woman Desi, Duniya, Mohabbat Se Kranti, Banjaare, Ghangor Connection, Maintenance, Tabah Tabah, and netflix & Chill – all of which aim to capture the life and times of today’s youth. The film stars Alaya F and debutant Karan Mehta. It had its world premiere in Marrakech’s Jemaa el Fna square last year. Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat is said to be based on Kashyap’s modern love and is slated to release on February 3, 2023.
