Prescribing the dress code for lawyers, hearing a case on Wednesday, the court directed, “They should wear ‘plain white shirt/white salwar-kameez/white saree’ in plain white while appearing in court in virtual form It is necessary to wear with neck band. Mode. The premises from which they appear should have decent and presentable background with peaceful surroundings and should be attentive to the court. The order further said, “Today while hearing the present case through virtual mode, a lawyer appearing for one of the parties appeared wearing a collared shirt and showed no remorse even after objecting to his conduct.” The court has shown leniency in not imposing any cost on the guilty advocate.”
In its order, the court cited past instances of such appearances, which included ‘a woman lawyer with a face pack’, a ‘lawyer while driving a scooter’ and a lawyer appearing before the court ‘wearing a vest’ . The court warned and said it would not ignore any more ‘casual appearance’ by lawyers during virtual court hearings.
