Karnataka minister and senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa on Thursday claimed that all Muslims and Christians of the country would someday associate themselves with the RSS.
The Rural Development Minister’s statement came during a discussion in the Assembly when Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri used the word “our RSS” and the day would come when opposition MLAs would also say the same thing to which Congress MLAs had objected.
It all started when Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah referred to the saffron outfit while speaking about his personal equations with some BJP leaders and ministers.
“Personal relations are important, then come party differences – BJP, RSS, Congress and others,” the Congress leader said, to which the president asked Siddaramaiah in a lighter note, “Why are you feeling upset about our RSS. ?” As Siddaramaiah was clarifying that he was not speaking out of sentiment, Congress MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan asked, “You (president) are saying – ‘Our RSS’ – sitting on that chair?” To this, Kageri replied, “And what, if not our RSS? Yes…..this is our RSS. RSS is ours.
Siddaramaiah said, he is also anti-RSS, because because of him ‘Manuvad’ will be established in this country. Intervening, Revenue Minister R Ashoka said, the RSS has become “sarva vapi and sarvasparshi” (omnipresent and omnipresent). “The President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Chief Minister of our country are all from RSS, now everyone has to accept it….
Minister Eshwarappa said, “All Muslims and Christians of the country, if not today or someday in future, will become RSS. There is no doubt about it.” This statement of the minister got a sharp reaction from some Congress MLAs.
Objecting to the Speaker’s statement associating himself with the RSS, Congress MLA Priyank Kharge said that he had spoken to the Speaker about constitutional values during a debate on the Constitution last year, “You claimed then that you are the Constitution Now you are saying that you are in favor of RSS.
As he claimed the RSS had burnt the Constitution in the past at Ramlila Maidan during the protests, because they were ‘Manusam? Iti’, the president and BJP members strongly objected to it and asked them not to say “unwanted wrong things”. The speaker told Kharge, “This is not right……if you want to do politics, throw it out.”
