  • Cases of Omicron have been detected in about 60 countries.
  • It is classified as an “anxiety type” by the World Health Organization.

Health department sources said on Monday that all primary and secondary contacts of the person who tested positive for the Omicron variant have tested negative for COVID-19. The third Omicron positive patient came from South Africa with a negative RT-PCR report on 1 December. He was also tested negative in the Covid-19 test at Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL) in Bengaluru.

However, he developed symptoms of COVID after reaching home; He voluntarily went to the laboratory for a swab test. The tests confirmed the Covid-19 infection in him. Since he came from a high-risk country, the authorities sent his swab samples for genomic sequencing tests. He was admitted to the designated hospital and was being treated for the Omicron version. Sources reveal that he is now asymptomatic and is responding well to the treatment. His health condition is also stable.

The officials tracked down all the five primary contacts and 15 secondary contacts of the Omicron type positive patient. All are asymptomatic and healthy. All of them have tested negative in the Covid-19 tests, bringing much relief to the authorities. The officials have collected their samples for the second time and the result is awaited. The officials are confident that the situation is now under control.
