A college professor in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh was sent on compulsory leave after a video of him performing ‘namaz’ on the college lawn went viral and Hindu right-wing youth leaders demanded action against him.

The incident was reported at Sri Varshney College, following which Professor SR Khalid was sent on a one-month compulsory leave on Tuesday (May 31).

A spokesperson of the college told the media that an inquiry has been ordered into the matter after some youth leaders of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) accused the teacher of indiscipline and disturbing peace by offering prayers in a public place.

Police Complaint:

A complaint was also lodged in this regard at the Kuwarsi police station.

Police said that action will be taken in the matter after receiving the report from the college administration.

Student leader Deepak Sharma Azad told reporters that the professor was trying to disturb the peaceful atmosphere by performing ‘namaz’ inside the college campus.
