Alia BhattThe release date of the much awaited film Gangubai Kathiawadi is finally out! Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film will hit the theaters on January 6, 2022. Last week, the Maharashtra government informed that theaters in the city will reopen from October. Since then, we have seen back to back announcements from filmmakers who were waiting for theaters to open so that their films could have a grand premiere. The makers of the film took to social media to reveal the release date.
“The wait to see his strength, strength and resilience is over. Bringing a stem-winding story of #GangubaiKathiawadi to theaters near you on 6th January 2022,” the post from production and distribution company Penn Studios read.
The film was scheduled to release on July 30, 2021, but had to be pushed back due to the second wave of the pandemic.
Gangubai Kathiawadi portrays Alia as Gangubai, one of the most powerful, beloved and respected madams of Kamathipura during the 1960s. The film is adapted from a chapter in the book “Mafia Queens of Mumbai” by renowned author Hussain Zaidi. It also stars Ajay Devgan in a cameo role.
Apart from Gangubai Kathiawadi, the actress has a slew of projects. She will be seen in SS Rajamouli’s RRR, Karan Johar’s Rocky and Rani’s love story opposite Ranveer Singh and Darlings. Alia will also be seen with her boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor for the first time in Ayan Mukerji’s fantasy drama Brahmastra. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni and Mouni Roy.
