The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and President of India Ram Nath Kovind approved the conferment of 128 Padma Awards ahead of the 73rd Republic Day celebrations. The list includes 4 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 107 Padma Shri awards. Thirty-four of the awardees are women and the list includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRIs/PIOs/OCIs and 13 posthumous awardees. The list included director Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who is known for directing the television epic “Chanakya” and the critical hit “Pinjar”. As soon as the announcement comes, Akshay Kumar took to Twitter to congratulate him on receiving the country’s fourth highest civilian award.
The Bollywood actor took to Twitter and wrote, “Heartbroken to see some great names on the #PadmaAwards list. Amazing achievement from Science, Armed Forces, Sports, Industry, Arts… and of course my director friend Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi . Very proud.”

Apart from Chandraprakash Dwivedi. Renowned classical singer of Kirana Gharana Dr Prabha Atre was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second highest civilian award, on Tuesday.
Veteran actor Victor Banerjee, known for films like Satyajit Ray classic “Ghare Baire” and David Lean’s epic “A Passage of India”, was awarded the country’s third highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan.
Names from the Indian arts sector that have been selected for the Padma Awards include Punjabi folk singer Gurmeet Bawa (posthumously) and classical musician Rashid Khan, who will also be honored with the Padma Bhushan.
Popular playback singer Sonu Nigam and veteran actor Soukar Janaki have also been awarded the Padma Shri.
Besides Nigam, Dwivedi and Janaki, the list for Padma Shri awardees also includes Nalini and Kamalini Asthana, Madhuri Barthwal, S Ballesh Bhajantri, Khandu Wangchuk Bhutia, Sulochana Chavan, Lourembam Bino Devi, Shyamamani Devi, Arjun Singh Dhurve, Gosaveedu Shaik Hassan (posthumous) ), Shivnath Mishra, among others.
